New Year, New Coffees… Gold Mountain Coffee Growers and Don Isidro

Happy New Year!

Don Isidro Farm

Don Isidro Farm

We’re ringing in the New Year with some new coffees for our loyal customers. Just one of the new additions to the shelf is Nicaragua Don Isidro, a light to medium roast with a creamy texture and fruity, well-balanced taste. Don Isidro’s farm is located on a mountain in the region Jinotega; the combination of the high altitude (³1,500m) and fertile soil offers a great location to grow coffee and other produce such as cabbage and carrots, however, it is Isidro’s great care and attention to detail that yields such high-quality goods. In fact, Isidro utilizes drying racks and hand picks out imperfections to ensure that all of his exports meet the same high standard.

We found Don Isidro through the importer Gold Mountain Coffee which owns Finca Idealista, another coffee farm in Nicaragua, and helps smaller farmers network and connect with roasters like us. Gold Mountain’s efforts extend beyond helping other coffee farmers; they also reinvest in Nicaragua’s communities.  Gold Mountain has funded free computing classes in which 90% of the students are Nicaraguan women, paid for an operation for a young girl that enabled her to walk, brought fresh running water and supplies to schools throughout the country, and even bought a rainforest, that’s right, an entire rainforest, just to protect the endangered plant and animal species living in it. If you’re interested in learning more about Gold Mountain Coffee, their farming partners, and service or if you’re curious about honey and natural processes or what washing coffee is, visit their website or take a look at their Instagram and Twitter pages.
